The Swiss Heritage Society honors the Graubünden mountain municipality for its “successful combination of tradition, progress, and community spirit.”
The Swiss Heritage Society awards a prize to Swiss municipalities for exemplary heritage conservation every year. This year, the Wakker Prize goes to the canton of Graubünden.
According to the explanatory statement, Poschiavo is nestled in the Alps and characterized by Mediterranean influence. It tells the fascinating story of a once-flourishing trading town between Graubünden and Italy.
Together with Poschiavo's clearly visible historical structure, they are now listed in the Federal Inventory of Swiss Sites of National Importance (ISOS).
According to the Swiss Heritage Society, Poschiavo is a role model for carefully handling building culture. The municipality has carefully inventoried its historic buildings and developed regulations guaranteeing high-quality maintenance and further development. Its remoteness has made the municipality a model of regional independence.
The natural diversity of Valposchiavo impresses
Poschiavo proves that a strong community and smart planning are key building blocks for a future worth living. The natural diversity of Valposchiavo is also impressive. With the Wakker Prize 2025, the Swiss Heritage Society recognizes Poschiavo as an example of successful political and administrative strategies and as proof that social commitment and cohesion can shape a mountain community into a high-quality place to live and work.
The official award ceremony will occur on August 23, 2025, as part of a public celebration.
